Today I got to sit in on a talk being given by Travis Jayner. In case you’re not aware who that is, he won the Olympic Bronze medal in short track speed skating. He had a lot of things to say that reminded me much of what it’s like to be a professional musician. The one big difference is all the working out they have to do. Though I tend to do a lot of working out myself. I dig keeping in shape.

What it boils down to is years of hard work for a hopeful shot at some glory.

It made me think that there’s a lot of hard work that goes on. Such is the story behind the song Hard Workin’ Hands by Dave Gunning. While the story isn’t about sports or music, it certainly is fitting and many of us can relate.

I like the mellow rustic nature that is being painted by Dave. The rough nature gives the song a sense that it is worked quite like a finely detailed wood carving or statue. Lots of attention being worked via hands. Music certainly gets a lot of hand time, since most instruments are played using hands.

By the way, I got a chance to hold Travis’s Bronze medal from the 2010 Canadian Winter Olympics. Very cool medal indeed.
