Ah the joys of social connection. No, I’m not talking about the concept of Facebook, or the previous king of myspace – which I now call whospace. You know it’s a sad day when another “social” site is claiming, hey we have surpassed whospace/myspace in market share. Makes me want to say – no kidding? Couldn’t be because no one visits that site anymore is it?

Alas I have digressed.

True social interaction is not based on the likes of google+ or facebook, et all. No, it’s the interactions you have with people face to face. While I don’t necessarily feel like a social butterfly, I have been told that I’m pretty good at getting out in the world and meeting people. I think it’s mostly because I like to explore and do things.

In the past 6 months I’ve met a good crew of people who are dedicated to the world of blues dancing. I enjoy it, mostly because it’s fun to learn something new. There’s a great group of people there. Same can be said for the people I’ve been playing sports with too. It’s led me to doing a great workout regimen.

Then there’s the world of the opposite sex. Getting that funny feeling inside when you want to be around someone. For some people it can be a scary prospect to get up the gumption to invite or ask someone out. In the past 6 months I’ve asked a variety of women out. Each one has had differing reactions. Some are really happy to go. Some want to go but put up a bizarre wall of self deprecation. Some will cruise right along and then suddenly get weird. If there was a person on the planet that could predict human behavior in matters of the heart they would be rich beyond belief. Many say they’ve cracked the code, reality is – you can never know what a person will truly do until they’re put into a situation for real.

Emily Zuzik has come out with a song that I heard a few weeks ago. It’s got a great build and it’s all about the simple concept of, hey – you like me, I like you – lets go out. Doesn’t get much more simple than that, so long as you put the fear of living aside.

I like the way the song opens and builds. The guitars sound cool. The vocal is confident. The track gets moving right along. I like the nature of the song. I like the nature of the album title. It’s an exploration of life.

Now go out there and enjoy yours!
