Today’s Sunday’s Child comes straight from Memphis Tennessee. They’re so new that their official joanred.com site isn’t ready yet. They don’t have a CD yet. They’re not on iTunes. They are truly a Sunday’s Child.
From a musical standpoint I have a hidden inner metal child that likes to rear it’s head now and then. Joan Red has a definite metal vibe going on. I hear a few different influences going on. The intro reminds me of early Korn. The verses and chorus remind me of Papa Roach. The bridge and middle section is a change on the whole do a guitar solo thing.
The thing that really grabs me about Joan Red is their singer. That’s element to a band in this genre that will make or break a band for me. This guy can sing and I like his voice. That’s a rarity for me. I would be very interested in hearing what would happen to these guys if they got hooked up with a producer that can polish their sound and make their songs a bit more efficient.
In parting I will say that I think they’re off to a really good start. I hope they check in from time to time and update me as to what they’re up to.

Inspired by great music and randomly spewed words, it makes for a fun way to learn about new music doesn't it?

Wow. I liked it. They sound like somebody, but I can’t think of who. And so does the singer (I’m drawing a blank). I think the bridge is very interesting. I’ve listened to a lot of Nu Metal stuff, and I liked it. But I would be afraid that they would be lost in the sea of Nu Metal right now. They don’t exactly stand out as they are right now. I would be afraid they would go the way of Papa Roach - Big hit now, but years later no body cares you have a record out. They’re (Papa Roach) not doing anything new with their sound. I have their new album, sucks. Sounds like everything else they’ve done. I go so bored of it, I didn’t even finish listening to it.

I like it a lot. It (the music)sounds influenced by enough different things that I like personally, that I just don’t get tired of listening to them.

That’s always a plus when you find a new band. Part of the reason I featured them here.

i think these guys will rock out!! memphis is waiting on some one who will change the airways! im sick of hearing they same ole’ local music that will stay local and not branch out to the world. these guys have a unique sound that will stand out. i know this first song may sound radio friendly but why not??? i would get my face out there too and then give the world something different…just wait..this band will be the new coming!!

That’s the beauty of time isn’t it? We’ll be able to see in the future.

i think it’s sad that no one knows this whole thing is a watered-down version of what the real artists tried to do with this singer’s original band. anthony had very little to do other than look the part. i happen to know personaly that his REAL voice is disturbing without the aid of technology, programs like auto-tune and lots of effects and so on. do not be fooled, this is another product of a good recording engineer.

You might think it’s sad, but when I have no research to back up your comment I can’t agree or disagree. I’d have to see the band live to know if you’re right. I also don’t know what real artists you’re talking about.
In the meantime, I can still enjoy it.

Anthony and the rest of the guys have more talent than you can possibly imagine. I know Anthony personally and he is going to go somewhere with these guys in Joan Red. I cannot wait to see them perform live!

These guys are great. Next time you see the guys play ask Anthony to do a Peter Griffin impression. It will blow you away!

Very insightful response Dustin. Maybe you can enlighten me on some other bands in Memphis or wherever midtown is for you, that is doing something I ought to showcase here on the blog. Do share.
